Eight Treasures

from Health Concerns

Eight Treasures is a Chinese herbal formula used for fatigue, sallow complexion, reduced appetite, spots before the eyes, cold limbs, shortness of breath, light headedness or vertigo.

Eight Treasures benefits anemia from chronic illness or blood loss. If signs or symptoms indicate, this formula benefits delayed or irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, post menstrual fatigue, uterine bleeding and the chronic conditions that underlie many diseases. Eight Treasures has also been found to be helpful for dry skin, and dry brittle hair.

This Chinese herbal formula is modified to increase circulation, making it beneficial for athletes who frequently suffer from depletion of blood

Eight Treasures is indicated for lack of both Qi and blood. The formula is the combination of two smaller formulas, The Four Gentlemen (Si Jun Zi Tang), to tonify Qi, and The Four Substances (Si Wu Tang) to tonify blood. Codonopsis (dang shen) tonifies the Qi while rehmannia (shu di huang) nourishes the blood. White atractylodes (bai zhu) and poria (fu ling) strengthen the spleen and remove dampness thereby assisting codonopsis. White peony (bai shao) and tang kuei (dang gui) nourish the blood and assist rehmannia in this capacity. An additional herb, spatholobus (ji xue teng) has been added to enhance the formula’s ability to both move and tonify the blood. Along with ligusticum (chuan xiong), the formula now takes on the increased ability to create new blood, making it valuable to athletic performers who tend to have exhausted blood. Licorice (zhi gan cao) tonifies the Qi and harmonizes the middle burner. Ginger (gan jiang) and red date (da zao) regulate the absorbing function of the spleen and stomach.
