In order to decide which Chinese herbal formula to use as your common cold remedy or flu remedy, you need to distinguish between wind-cold and wind heat.

  • Wind-Cold

Aversion to cold, shivering, either slight or no fever, absence of sweating, headache in the occipital region, stiff neck, body aches, slight cough, sneezing and a runny nose with clear or white phlegm. The tongue will look normal. The pulse may be floating and tight.

  • Wind-Heat

Also an aversion to cold and shivering, but there will be fever and some sweating. Runny nose with yellow phlegm, headache, body aches, cough, sore throat, swollin tonsils, feeling thirsty, and darker color urine. The tongue may have the color red on its sides &/or tip. The pulse may feel floating and fast.
