How To Intelligently Reclaim Your Energy Using Jamie’s Adrenal Health Protocol

Comments Off

Are you ready to finally jump out of bed every morning with exuberant energy that keeps going all day long with no afternoon slump and no need for caffeine?  And then sleep like a baby every night without tossing and turning or waking up at 3 AM unable to go back to sleep?

The first key to reclaiming your energy is figuring out what is causing the problem.  One of the most common modern dis-eases that zap your energy is adrenal dysfunction.  Read below to find out if you have it and how you can heal your adrenals using very specific nutritional protocols.

The symptoms of adrenal exhaustion include:

Fatigue (extreme)
Depression ( due to hormonal imbalance)
Insomnia (the body may produce adrenaline in adrenal exhaustion in an attempt to compensate for low cortisol, which leads to insomnia)

Slump in energy in the afternoons
Body aches
Increased chemical sensitivity
“New” allergies

Anxiety

Increased susceptibility to infections
Stomach problems/Constipation/Diarrhea
Accumulation of excess fat in the belly or torso
Craving for salty foods and sweets
Reproductive hormone imbalance symptoms
Thyroid dysfunction ( increased levels of cortisol block the peripheral conversion of T4 to T3

Test your salivary cortisol and DHEA using a simple adrenal hormone test kit.  You will need to collect a sample of your saliva during the times listed below. Buy your test kit here: Metametrix Adrenal $197
Adrenal Stress Metametrix Kit (measures cortisol and DHEA)
Receive test results within 5 business days

• Morning Cortisol (7:00 – 8:00 AM)
• Noon Cortisol (11:00 – 12:00 PM)
• Afternoon Cortisol (4:00 – 5:00 PM)
• Nighttime Cortisol (11:00 – 11:59PM)

See a sample adrenal test result

You will need to mail your samples to the testing lab for analysis.  When you receive the results of your lab test, here is how to interpret the information.  Scroll down to learn how to intelligently read your lab test results and how to choose which supplements you need for your adrenals:

If your total cortisol is less than 23 and/or greater than 85 then you need a pregnenolone supplement.

Week 2 – 6: 30 mg/day

Week 7: 20 mg/day

Week 8 & 9: 10 mg/day

Week 10: None

If your DHEA is less than 7 ng/ml then you need a DHEA supplement.

By 10 mg 90 Vcaps $9.99

(Note: Although the reference range for salivary DHEA is 2 to 10 ng/ml, the ideal
optimal range is 7.0 to 8.0 ng/ml.  If you are over the age of 25, it is very likely that your DHEA levels will be decreased.  For children under age 14 or who have not reached puberty, it is normal and healthy to have low DHEA levels.)

DHEA Protocol

Guidelines
The recommended dose varies from 17 mg – 50 mg per day depending on your age, sex, and current DHEA levels.
Females:
Week 1: Use 25 mg A.M. only
Week 2: Use 10 mg twice daily thereafter
Males
Week 1: Use 50 mg A.M. only
Week 2: Use 20 mg twice daily
Week 3 and beyond: Use 10 mg twice a day thereafter.
Possible Side Effects include: headaches, light headedness, stomach discomfort,
acne, breast tenderness, excess mucous, female menstrual spotting.
Alternative Protocol in the event of side effects:
In the event patient experiences any of the above side effects it is recommended to
decrease the dose to 1 drop twice a day and gradually titrate up to the optimal dosage.

Are your cortisol levels elevated at specific times of day or night?

If your morning cortisol is elevated
• This could be caused by eating a high-glycemic (high sugar) meal before bedtime.
• This could be caused by 3rd shift occupation (nighttime job) resulting in a circadian reversal.
• This might also be caused by a parasitic infection (check for monocytes > 7 and eosinophils >3).

Elevated cortisols should be treated with Phosphorylated Serine in MentalSharp.

Buy Here 1 oz. $46.99

A common dose is 1 dropperful 20 to 30 minutes before each of the elevated cortisols. For
example, if the morning and evening cortisols are elevated then one dropperful should be
taken 20 to 30 minutes before morning cortisol time (7:00 – 8:00 AM) and 20 to 30
minutes before evening cortisol time (11:00 – 11:59PM)

Are your individual cortisols too low?

If yes, then you need ADR Formula from Pure Encapsulations.  This product contain licorice, adaptogenic herbs, and adrenal cortex extract.

Buy 120 Vcaps $49.99

• If individual cortisol levels are less than 5 nM, nutritional supplementation is likely to NOT be fully
effective because your problem has progressed to a condition that can be life-threatening if not immediately treated. In these cases a prescription of hydrocortisone may be indicated.  You will have to visit a medical doctor for hydrocortisone, or if you live in Arizona you can seek out a Naturopathic practitioner, or in New Mexico you can seek out an Acupuncturist with an extended scope of practice that includes prescription drugs.

Cortisol Prescription Protocol

Cortisol prescription doses that usually augments to physiological levels include the
following:
Morning dose – 10 to 15 mg
This dose should be taken between 6AM to 7AM with homemade raw, gluten free “Ritz” crackers and unfluoridated water.
Noon dose – 7.5 – 10 mg
This dose should be taken between 10AM to 11AM with raw, gluten free “Ritz” crackers and unfluoridated water.
Afternoon dose – 5 mg or less
This dose should be taken between 3PM to 4PM with raw, gluten free “Ritz” crackers and unfluoridated water.
Prescription Cortisol and/or Licorice should NOT be used for depressed evening cortisol!  Low evening cortisol is what you want! :-)

Anti-Cancer/Anti-Radiation Chocolate Banana Maca Softserve “Ice Cream”

4 over-ripe bananas

1 1/2 cups raw milk or almond milk

2 tablespoons Longevity Maca Buy Here

Maca is a traditional plant common to the Andes mountains that has been used for centuries to enhance fertility, improve sexual function, improve energy and more.  Maca (aka Lepidium Peruvianum and Lepidium meyenii) belongs to the mustard family and is considered an adaptogen-helping us to adapt to a variety of stressors.

A systematic review was done to assess the clinical evidence for or against the efficacy of maca for sexual dysfunction.  The review included only randomized clinical trials comparing maca to a placebo in men or women with sexual dysfunction.4 Four randomized controlled trials (RCT) met the inclusion criteria.  Two of these trials suggested a positive effect of maca on sexual dysfunction or libido in menopausal women or adult.  One other RCT did not show effect of maca in cyclists with sexual dysfunction.  The fourth study showed significant effects of maca in men with erectile dysfunction .

While the “scientific” evidence is limited, there does appear to be some effectiveness of maca in improving sexual function.

Just Stay: An Inspirational Story!

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.

“Your son is here,” she said to the old man.

She had to repeat the words several times before the
patient’s eyes opened.

Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he
dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the
oxygen tent. He reached out his hand.

The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s
limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit
beside the bed.

All through the night the young Marine sat there in the
poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and… Read More

How detoxification done right can transform your life!

Comments Off

Dear friend,

I am writing this to you right after doing an invigorating 2-hour yoga practice, and I feel AMAZING!  During the hours following my daily yoga practice, I am always in my creative and productive flow in which I am able to get a lot done at the computer without having any neck or back strain, or “computer vision.”  Tight hamstrings and sciatic pain aren’t even an option because I’m sitting on the floor in lotus position. :-) After I write this message to you, I’m going to go hiking and watch the sunset.

I’m telling you this because life has not always been like this for me.

As many of you may already know, I suffered for YEARS with chronic health problems, including horrible migraine headaches, allergies, painful and itchy skin rashes, waking up in the mornings with a swollen face and swollen eyelids, tiredness and fatigue, difficulty concentrating, anxiety and panic attacks, candida/yeast infections, bladder infections, asthma attacks, poor muscle tone, and a whole list of other “vague” symptoms.  I managed to make straight A’s throughout high school and college, but by 3 PM every day in high school I was EXHAUSTED, and in college I would literally get so ill that I would wake up in the middle of the night and vomit.

The doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me.  All they wanted to do was prescribe drugs — anti-depressants, birth control pills, an inhaler for the asthma.  One doctor said the migraine headaches were caused by a vertebrae in my neck being out of place, while another doctor thought it was caused by a pain reliever deficiency.  A chiropractor said all my problems were caused by one leg being shorter than the other.

I tried many things, including a strict vegan diet, but NOTHING worked to get rid of all the symptoms that I suffered from.

Finally while I was in graduate school working on my degree in Asian Medicine (AKA Chinese Medicine, Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture and Herbology, or whatever you want to call it), the answers began to unfold.  Within just a few short weeks, I was able to eliminate ALL of the health problems I was having.

This powerful nutrient prevents age-related loss of muscle mass and function!

Comments Off

What if there was a simple, natural way to prevent loss of muscle mass and muscle function as you get older, while simultaneously also keeping your brain sharp?  Would you do it, or would you prefer to allow your muscles and brain to just shrivel up as you age while all your friends who are taking advantage of this safe and natural “remedy” keep their muscle tone, athletic abilities, and mental acuity?

Well, what if I told you that such a safe and natural “remedy” exists, but few people know about it because it’s not a pharmaceutical drug that can be patented, marketed to doctors, advertised during the Superbowl, and sold to the masses like a pain pill or a sleeping drug?  As you probably gathered by the title of this post, this “remedy” does exist in the form of a simple nutrient.

Cutting-edge research in the field of anti-aging and longevity has discovered that carnosine, a multifunctional dipeptide composed of two amino acids called beta-alanine and L-histidineprotects, protects muscle and nerve cells from senescence (biological aging and shortening of telomeres in your chromosomes).  Carnosine is most abundant in nerve and muscle cells, which are actually the longest living cells in the body.  Muscle levels of carnosine correlate with the maximum lifespans of animals, meaning that the higher the level of carnosine in an animal’s muscle tissue, the longer the animal lives.  We get carnosine in our food by eating meat, so vegetarians and vegans will become deficient in carnosine if they do not supplement their diet with a carnosine supplement.

A real-deal nutrient for longevity, carnosine also has the ability to suppress formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and reactive oxygen species (ROS).  AGEs and ROS are the main causes of metabolic dysfunction and oxidative stress that can lead to the health problems that are associated with getting older. We now know that carnosine levels decline with age. Muscle levels of carnosine decline 63% from age 10 to age 70, which is one reason why we can see age-related decline in muscle mass and function.  Carnosine supplementation can halt this decline, keeping your muscles as strong and healthy at age 70 as they were in your twenties!

Since carnosine acts as a pH buffer, it can protect muscle cell membranes from oxidation under the acidic conditions of muscular exertion (AKA exercise — which you should optimally be doing 6 days a week). Carnosine enables the heart muscle to contract more efficiently through by enhancing calcium response in the cells of the heart itself.

Longevity research has found that aging causes irreversible damage to the body’s proteins. One underlying mechanism behind this damage is glycation, which involves the cross-linking of proteins and sugars to form non-functioning structures in the body. The process of glycation can be superficially seen as unsightly wrinkled skin. Glycation is also an underlying cause of age-related neurologic, vascular, and eye problems. Carnosine is a unique dipeptide that can interfere with the glycation process.

At Holistic Chinese Herbs, we have searched out what we feel is the BEST carnosine supplement you can be taking as part of your daily healthy lifestyle.  This carnosine supplement by Designs for Health contains benfotiamine in addition to 450 mg of carnosine per veggie capsule.  Benfotiamin is a derivative of thiamine (vitamin B1) that provides additional protection against glycation reactions while guarding cells against the toxic effects of chronic glucose exposure. Even people with normal glucose levels encounter damaging sugar reactions over a lifetime. Benfotiamine protects against glucose-induced cell damage via several mechanisms.

If you are over the age of 25, or if you are a vegetarian or vegan, I urge you to protect your muscle mass, muscle function, cardiovascular health, and mental acuity by implementing this powerful nutrient into your healthy lifestyle.  Why would you not?

Ancient Tonic Herbal Formula for Seasonal Fasting and Breaking Addictions

Comments Off

This ingenius combination of tonic herbs was first recorded in an ancient Chinese herbal textbook called the Shang Han Lun, which was written by a famous alchemist by the name of Zhang Zhong-Jing.  The formula is noted for its ability to descend to the level of primal Yin and Yang where it has a potent impact on the psyche.  The original indications for the formula include irritability, heart palpitations, jitteriness, feeling of heaviness/lethargy in the arms and legs, general malaise, and spiritual disturbance.

These symptoms are often experienced during withdrawal from cigarettes, alcohol, prescription drugs, recreational drugs, and even food addictions.  Some people even report experiencing these physical withdrawal symptoms when ending toxic relationships or going without a cell phone or computer for 24 hours or more.  Because this formulation of herbs works to calm and balance the mind, body, and spirit, it can be used to assist in breaking addictions as well as during fasting.

Other uses for which this formula has proven effective include migraine headache, anxiety, insomnia with nightmares and vivid dreams, nausea and vomiting, heart palpitations, neurosis, psycho-emotional disorders, PMS, hypertension (high blood pressure), post-viral fatigue, and chronic fatigue syndrome.  The formula tends to work most effectively in individuals who have a rapid pulse and a red tongue (not pale or pink) with a greasy coating and swollen edges.

Explanation of the ingredients in the ancient alchemical tonic, Calm Dragon:

Bupleurum root – harmonizes the gallbladder and “triple burner” meridians, rectifies Liver Qi, clears heat caused by toxic buildup in the liver

Pinellia Rhizome – regulates Qi (Prana), clears phlegm from the body, restores healthy function to the stomach and lungs

Gardenia fruit – helps the body get rid of excess heat and toxins through the urine, alleviates irritability, restlessness, and insomnia

Red jujube fruit – helps restore proper digestion, boosts Qi (Prana), resolves drug toxins, helps restore the immune system

Chinese skullcap root – normalizes blood pressure, assists the body in detoxification

Chinese cinnamon twig – relieves heaviness, supports Yang energy, stabilizes blood sugar, protects the immune system

Poria cocos fruiting body – strengthens digestive function, regulates the fluids of the bod to prevent dehydration and/or excess water retention, calms the spirit, and helps the body expel toxins through the urine

Oyster shell – calms the spirit, enriches the Yin, and provides a grounding effect to alleviate and prevent spaciness and jitteryness

Hematite – soothes headaches, dizziness, and vertigo; stops belching, vomiting, and hiccups

Fossilized bone (aka “Dragon Bone”) – calms the mind and spirit, settles anxiety and fear, and stops sweating caused by nervousness and drug withdrawal

White Asian Ginseng Root – supplements Original Qi and Correct Qi, strengthens the Spirit and willpower

Dried ginger root – supports a healthy metabolism and assists digestion and utilization of the other herbs in the formula

White Asian Ginseng Tails – supplements Original Qi and Correct Qi, strengthens the Spirit and willpower, more powerful effect than ginseng root

I recommend taking this formula up to four times daily as needed for cravings and symptoms in dosages of 16 – 32 drops or 2 – 3 tablets.
